Two orderly books: v. 1 24 February-9 September 1778 and v. 2 23 September 1778-5 August 1779. V. 1 contains general and regimental orders with daily field officers assignments with headquarters at Albany, Fishkill, Robinson's House and Peekskill; v. 2 contains general, regimental and brigade orders with descriptions of general and division court martials; also contains a letter from Major Deborda of the French Army.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
